Biography
Dr. Laura Moore is the Chair of the Music Department at the University of South Alabama, where she also serves as the Director of Choral Activities. She directs the Concert Choir and Chorale, and teaches conducting and music history at the undergraduate and graduate levels. She received her doctorate in Choral Conducting from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Other earned degrees include the BA from Davidson College, a Master’s degree in Piano Performance from the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University, and a Master’s degree in Choral Conducting from UNC Greensboro. Prior to her tenure at South Alabama, she was full-time Instructor in Choral Conducting at UNC Greensboro as well as Associate Conductor with the Choral Society of Greensboro.
The 91¶ÌÊÓÆµ Concert Choir has performed with the Mobile Symphony on multiple occasions,
                                 including Beethoven Symphony #9 (2011 and 2017), Carmina Burana by Carl Orff (2012
                                 and 2019), Prokofiev’s Alexander Nevsky (2013), Brahms’ Schicksalslied (2015), Mahler
                                 Symphony #2 (2018), and the Mozart Requiem (2024). The University Chorale performed
                                 the Brahms Requiem by invitation in a combined collegiate choir at the 2020 ACDA conference
                                 (Southern Region), by invitation at the AMEA conference in January 2011, and has also
                                 performed music of Brahms and Mozart with the Mobile Symphony Youth Orchestra. 
Dr. Moore has been the chorus master of Mobile Opera since 2009 and was appointed
                                 in 2023 as the Artistic Director of the Eastern Shore Choral Society. She is active
                                 as a collaborative pianist, having served as staff accompanist at regional Metropolitan
                                 Opera and NATS auditions, and performing in faculty and student recitals at the University
                                 of South Alabama.  Dr. Moore is involved in church music and musical theater. She
                                 has served as clinician and adjudicator in North Carolina, Mississippi, Florida, and
                                 Alabama. As part of the Alabama Ambassadors of Music tour to Europe in June 2009 and
                                 June 2011, Dr. Moore conducted choral concerts in England, France, Switzerland, Austria,
                                 and Germany. In the summer of 2017, she traveled to China to conduct a three-week
                                 residency with the Shaoxing Children’s Choir. 
Laura Moore has served as the President of the Alabama chapter of the American Choral
                                 Directors Association and Registrar for the Alabama chapter of National Association
                                 of Teachers of Singing. She currently serves as Chair of Region 8 of the National
                                 Association of Schools of Music and the president of the South Alabama chapter of
                                 Phi Kappa Phi.
